Texas Family Shocked To Learn That Baby at Hospital Breastfed By Wrong Mother

In a shocking story, a woman claims that a hospital outside of Houston allowed another patient to breastfeed her baby shortly after it was born due to a mix-up at the birthing facility. According to the Huffington Post, after Jessica Escobedo gave birth to her third child Melanie, on December 10, 2013, at the Oak Bend Medical Center, she was brought a baby by a nurse who she did not give birth to. Family Sues United States After Baby Suffers Brain Injuries

According to Courthouse News Service, a federal judge has ordered the United States to pay more than $28 million to the family of a boy who suffered severe brain injuries when doctors failed to performed a timely Caesarean section (c-section). The news outlet reported that U.S. District Judge David R. Herndon entered judgment on December 20 for Sean Cobbs and his parents Patoya Bryant and Sean Cobbs Sr. The case took place in East St. Louis, Illinois. According to Courthouse News Service, the judgment “includes $3,216,827 for lost earnings, $15,165,708 for future care, $231,713 for past medical expenses, $5 million for loss of normal life, $3 million for pain and suffering, $2 million for disfigurement, $1 million for risk of future harm and a setoff of $1.6 million from a settlement with Southern Illinois Hospital Services.” The family reportedly sued the United States under the Federal Tort Claims Act, citing…

Couple Awarded $50 Million After Botched Genetic Test Gives Way to Son With Severe Disabilities

According to DisabilityScoop.com, a couple in Washington was awarded $50 million after their son was born with severe birth disabilities. According to the website, Brock and Rhea Wuth were told they had a 50-50 chance of having a child with a defect or a related issue, so prior to conception, they sought genetic counseling and testing, following doctor recommendations. When Rhea became pregnant shortly thereafter, genetic testing said their child was “normal”. However, when their son Oliver was born in 2008, they knew something was wrong with him. Oliver was born with profound mental and physical disabilities. Oliver, now 5, has an IQ of 50 to 70, cannot run, walk up stairs or talk beyond a few dozen words, according to DisabilityScoop.com.
