Israeli Researchers Uncover Brain Link to Help People With Cerebral Palsy

Researchers in Israel believe a connection between white fiber bundles in the brain and cognitive ability will help people with cerebral palsy. The researchers believe the discovery will help match patients with the right therapy. White fiber bundles are connected by white matter in the brain. The bundles transmit electrical signals that are directly linked to a person’s cognitive ability. The research shows the relationship between the density of these bundles in the brain matter and affected areas of the brain.

The results helped the researchers understand that not all areas of the brain were affected by a patient’s cerebral palsy, and therefore it helped them pinpoint the areas that were most affected. The researchers said this would allow an individual to focus on the therapies that work directly with the affected areas of the brain. The study found that current brain scans can detect these areas and can be used to match patients with a relevant treatment.
