Forceps and Vacuum Deliveries Lead to Higher Rates of Trauma

A new study allegedly confirms that midpelvic forceps and midpelvic vacuum deliveries lead to higher rates of birth trauma when compared to C-section deliveries. It is discouraging information, as according to the report, in 2014, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists encouraged the increased use of forceps and vacuums during labor to reduce the need for surgical procedures. Of the more than 187,000 deliveries investigated in Canada from 2003-13 (including all midpelvic live or stillbirths via forceps or vacuum and cesarean delivery) between 37 and 41 weeks, more than 76,000 women had further medical interventions because of “poor uterine contractions.” Researchers discovered that in births not involving fetal distress, “severe complications for the baby were 80 percent…

Women Opting For A Natural Birth To Avoid Birth Trauma From Hospitals

The University of Sydney has released a study that shows more mothers are opting for a home birth than dealing with the possible birth trauma they may experience in hospitals. The study, published in the Journal of Medical Ethics stated that women are concerned about miscommunication their doctors. The mothers believe a woman’s capacity to make informed decisions should not be overruled by the doctors belief they are unable to while giving birth. Noted in the paper is how more emphasis placed on modern birthing practices may actually be more harmful than good. The study indicates that more women are coming out of the hospital with post-traumatic stress disorder because they have been forcibly held down while being examined during births or given a caesarian procedure against their wishes. Cerebral Palsy Lawyers Applaud Family of Boy with Cerebral Palsy Who Raised $40,000 for Disability Research

Finn Kelly was born 11 weeks early. His premature birth caused him to suffer from a baby brain injury, which later caused his diagnosis of cerebral palsy that left him unable to walk or talk. Now 8 years old, Kelly just finished the Sleepy Hollow Half Marathon on March 23 thanks to the support of his family and friends who literally pushed him to the finish line during the last mile of the race. His team, “Friends of Finn,” ran the half marathon and to date raised more than $40,000 for the Cerebral Palsy International Research Foundation (CPIRF), an organization committed to researching and finding a cure for cerebral palsy.
