Some inspiring news from across the pond: a man with a severe form of cerebral palsy completed a five-day half marathon.

Adam King, a 37-year-old Littleport man who cannot talk or walk, rode his electric wheelchair throughout his village and ended his half marathon at the Littleport Sports Centre. He participated in the marathon as a fundraising effort: he is saving to buy a computer that will use his eye movements to communicate.

Coordinator Claire Pendle said she admires King’s tenacity.

“He needs a computer and he’s doing as much as he can to raise money for it on his own,” Pendle said. “He’s not expecting to just be handed a computer or get it through any handouts.”

So far, King’s efforts have brought in more than £1,600.

“The support from the people of Littleport just have been fantastic…especially Littleport Sports Centre,” King said. The sports center helped provide King a route that he could ride over the five days, eventually finishing at the center. He said he felt “fantastic” about the event, though a bit tired.

King’s optimism is inspiring, and we admire his ambitious attitudes towards accomplishing goals. We also appreciate the Littleport Sports Centre’s assistance in helping King accomplish his goals.
