Why the United States has a High Infant Death Rate

Birth Trauma Attorneys Explore the Causes According to one report, the United States now has the highest first-day infant death rate of all industrialized countries. Over 11,000 newborns in the U.S. die before they are even 24 hours old, which is 50 percent more than all other industrialized countries combined. This data may be shocking to many mothers to-be and is far below what most people expect from the health care in the U.S. This raises questions about what medical practices cause so many U.S. newborns to suffer wrongful death. The Causes of High Infant Mortality in the United States The first 24 hours of a child’s life are the riskiest, and many factors can cause the child to suffer from complications, including some that occur far before the child is born: Poor prenatal care is often linked to infant mortality. Individuals with Cerebral Palsy Living Life to the Fullest

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) states that cerebral palsy is one of the most common motor disabilities in children. Every year, physician negligence causes countless numbers of newborns to sustain serious birth injuries by failing to order a caesarian section in a timely manner, improperly using vacuum extractors or forceps in addition to not taking adequate measures to protect the baby during delivery. New Stem Cell Research Is Helping Children Who Suffer From Brain Damage

Researchers in Germany and Korea are making headway in an effort to treat children who suffer from cerebral palsy and brain damage by studying a two-and-a-half-year old boy who had to be resuscitated after he went into cardiac arrest in 2008. During the time between his heart attack and resuscitation, the boy suffered severe brain damage that left him in a vegetative state with a minimal chance of survival. Recently, the researchers administered a treatment using the boy’s umbilical cord stem cells to treat the brain damage. Two months after the treatment, the boy learned to move and speak simple sentences. The process uses blood extracted from the umbilical cord after birth. Researchers have found that the blood inside the umbilical cord contains all the normal elements of blood but is very rich in hematopoietic stem cells. These particular stem cells tend to migrate towards the brain in large numbers…
