Disney Accused of Not Making Parks Assessable to Children with Disabilities

According to DisabilityScoop.com, Disney is facing allegations of discrimination in a lawsuit that says that the company does not accommodate people with disabilities at its theme parks and violates the Americans with Disabilities Act. The lawsuit was filed earlier this month by the mothers of 16 children and young adults with disabilities, and accuses Disney of dissuading the presence of disabled youths at theme parks. According to the lawsuit, Disney had made changes to its accommodation policies last fall, allowing individuals with disabilities and their guests to skip to the front of lines for attractions. However, now, visitors to Walt Disney World and Disneyland can obtain a Disability Access Service Card, which allows them to schedule a return time to wait in line for a ride. According to the Oregonian, a woman whose premature baby died after an emergency Caesarean section has filed a $1.9 million lawsuit against the doctor who treated her.  The woman claims that the doctor failed to give her medication that would have delayed her son’s birth. The lawsuit was filed in the Multnomah County Circuit Court last month. The woman was reportedly 6 1/2 months pregnant in February 2012 when she went to Providence Seaside Hospital with signs that she was in early labor, according to the Oregonian. Testing, including ultrasounds, showed that the fetus had normal heartbeats. However, the woman ended up spending 11 hours at the hospital before she was transferred via ambulance to the Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Northwest Portland, which is 74 miles from Seaside. According to her lawsuit, about an hour after her arrival at St. Vincent, an emergency C-section was performed on the…
