Your Doctors Must Address Potential Delivery Complications

The loss of a child during birth is not something money alone can help a family recover from. Birth Trauma

Keep this in mind when you see substantial lawsuit awards written about in the news involving birth trauma cases. This is why healthcare providers have a duty to make sure all safety measures are taken during the delivery of a child.

The failure of a doctor to properly diagnose complications that could come up during a delivery could lead to costly delays, leading to the death or injury of a newborn. Such is the case when a doctor fails to monitor complications such as gestational diabetes and high blood pressure throughout a pregnancy. The failure of a healthcare provider to not properly react during a pregnancy can lead to botched caesarean sections and improperly performed vaginal deliveries, with the forceful use of forceps or vacuums.

Failures by healthcare providers can cause your child suffering serious shoulder, neck and brain injuries, bruising, permanent indentations, cranial damage, and excessive blood loss or cephalohematoma, as they face undue stress during a complicated delivery.

Texas Woman Awarded $10.2 Million Following Newborn’s Wrongful Death

Updating a story we have been following for several years, a Bridge City woman, whose daughter died after a traumatic birth at a Port Arthur hospital, was awarded $10.2 million in August.

The woman lost her child, Oliva, only four days after her birth at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas. Attorneys successfully argued that the doctor who birthed the child used forceps during her delivery, despite indications the child was in distress and a natural birth was unsafe, according to the Beaumont Enterprise.

A Jefferson County jury awarded the woman $6 million for loss of companionship, $4.1 million for mental anguish, $100,000 for physical pain and another $575 for funeral expenses, according to reports. The baby reportedly suffered a skull fracture and brain hemorrhaging, which may have been avoided had surgery been performed.
